The extraordinary realm of wildlife destinations in North East India occupies a prized place on the tourism map of India. Scan the Wildlife Sanctuaries and National Parks of North East India and you are bound to remember the experience for the rest of your life. The sight of the captivating and fascinating wildlife species such as endangered one-horned Rhino, tiger, elephant and gaur (world’s largest wild ox), snow leopard, wild dog, yaks, musk deer, red panda and sambar overwhelms even the most jaded of tourist. From beautiful flora to a wide variety of wildlife species, including the endangered ones, North East India is endowed with all.
Colorful and impressive avian species such as Lesser White-fronted Goose, Ferruginous Duck, Baer’s Pochard duck, Lesser Adjutant, Greater Adjutant, Black-necked Stork, Asian Openbill, White-tailed and Palla’s Fish Eagle are the cheerful dwellers of North East India.
North East India encompasses eight wonderful states namely Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Tripura and Sikkim. Each state has its own share of wildlife attractions to offer to tourists.

Kaziranga National Park, Assam: It is a World Heritage Site famous for its endangered One-Horned Rhinoceros. In fact it has the world’s largest population of One-Horned Rhinoceroses. It also boasts of the highest population of tigers among the protected areas of the world. It is a home to a variety of beautiful and colorful birds. The scenic beauty of the Park is one of its attractions.
Sessa Orchid Sanctuary, Arunachal Pradesh
Flooded with around 200 species of colorful and mesmerizing Orchids, Sessa Orchid Sanctuary is a protected area.
Manas National Park, Assam
It is a World Heritage Site and a Project Tiger Reserve famous for its endangered wildlife species such as Assam Roofed Turtle, Hispid Hare, Golden Langur and Pygmy Hog. The Park boasts of 380 species of birds, 55 species of mammals, 50 species of reptiles and 3 species of amphibians.
Gumti Wildlife Sanctuary, Tripura
From reptiles, mammals and avian species, Gumti Wildlife Sanctuary is a home to all.
The state of Nagaland is famous for its unique, rare and endangered Trogopan bird . It is a beautiful bird believed to have been migrated from the Himalayas. In total there are five species of this bird in India, but in Nagaland only one of the species namely Trogopan blythii(Jerdon) is found.
